The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) will host the webinar, “Building Bridges: Culturally-Informed Public Health Engagement with Anabaptist Communities” on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 2:00 - 3:30 pm EDT to discuss the knowledge and tools needed to engage effectively with Anabaptist communities, including Amish and Mennonite groups, in the context of infectious disease prevention and outbreak responseRegistration for this webinar is required.
  
Participants will hear from Dr. Steven Nolt, professor of history and Anabaptist studies at Elizabethtown College, and interim director and senior scholar at the college’s Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. The goal of this webinar is to equip public health professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to engage effectively with Anabaptist communities, including Amish and Mennonite groups, in the context of infectious disease prevention and outbreak response. This session will explore the unique cultural, religious, and social aspects of these communities, highlighting the importance of respecting their diverse practices and beliefs. Participants will learn about approaches for culturally-informed engagement, building trust, and fostering collaborative approaches that reduce stigma. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. 

The author or coauthor of fourteen books on Amish, Mennonite, and Pennsylvania German history and contemporary life, Dr. Nolt is widely recognized for his scholarship on Anabaptist groups across North America (see bio). He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Notre Dame. He also serves as series editor for Young Center Books in Anabaptist and Pietist Studies published by the Johns Hopkins University Press.
