This discussion-based training will examine how emergency preparedness and response can and should employ diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice frameworks.
Audience
This session is intended for the local public health and healthcare workforce involved in community interventions, emergency preparedness, and infectious diseases.
Learning Objectives
- Explore instances of flooding emergencies in rural, urban, and suburban areas in Michigan
- Explain the value-add of integrating a diversity-equity-inclusion-justice (DEIJ) framework into emergency preparedness/response practice
- Formulate 2-3 DEIJ-related approaches to reduce the risks and inequities related to rural flooding and increase the level of preparedness
- Discuss health impacts and inequities that arise during flood emergencies
- Outline the key risks and preparedness considerations needed to effectively mitigate flood consequences
