FULL TWO HOUR Implicit Bias Recognition and Remediation Training

Overview: 

Michigan Health Council is pleased to offer implicit bias training for health care professionals. This session is offered as a complete 2-hour live webinar.

Each two-hour training will include an overview on how to recognize implicit bias, an in depth discussion and exercises on the following six topics:

  • Race
  • Sex/Gender
  • Body Habitus
  • Ability/Neurodiversity
  • Age 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners will gain an understanding about what implicit bias is.
  2. Learners will gain an understanding of the history of bias in healthcare and the modern consequences of bias in the delivery of health care services.
  3. Learners will gain an understanding on how implicit bias informs their decisions and interactions.
  4. Learners will learn strategies to remedy the impact of bias in their perceptions, judgment, and communication.
  5. Learners will learn strategies to reduce disparities in access and delivery of health care services.

Michigan participants will earn a certificate of completion to meet the requirements for (re)licensure in the state of Michigan R 338.7004.  

About The Instructor:

This course is taught by Kristin Sewell, M.A, a certified trainer in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Kristin has degrees in Sociology and Anthropology and is the Director of Workforce Development for Michigan Health Council. Kristin was an instructor of anthropology at Michigan State University and is a published author on topics related to identity, identity formation, and identity expression throughout American history.
