Public Health Law Practitioners Convening: Empowering Public Health Through Law and Policy

Meeting Dates:
Tuesday, April 30, 2024 to Thursday, May 2, 2024
Meeting Time and Location:

New Orleans, LA

Note:

The public health community currently finds itself in unfamiliar territory where new health threats are emerging, previously existing issues are becoming more complex, and existential challenges are rising. Opposition to the legal authority of public health agencies has become more common, forcing public health professionals to re-evaluate their place within a broader law and policy framework. These conditions have made it harder to perform top-quality work while competing for limited resources amidst everchanging public opinion. There’s a need to come together to address the current obstacles and explore the opportunities that law and policy has to offer.

The Public Health Law Practitioners Convening provides its attendees with the space to learn, collaborate, develop and share promising practices, and address existing and emerging issues as a community. With Empowering Public Health through Law and Policy as the theme, this event will provide professionals from state, local, tribal, and territorial jurisdictions with firsthand knowledge from fellow public health leaders, attorneys, policy professionals, and practitioners on how to positively impact their community’s health and wellbeing.
