Under general supervision, provides highly experienced professional nursing care and consultation services emphasizing disease prevention, early detection and referrals for individuals, groups, schools and community agencies within an assigned geographic district or program unit. Promotes the health of individuals, families and communities through teaching, counseling and appropriate preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative techniques. Assesses health needs, performs immunizations and follow-up investigations and coordinates activities with other health professionals. Provides leadership and consultation to lower level Public Health Nurses and actively participates in development of performance standards for nursing care. Participates in health-related community activities within assigned area or program emphasis.
